Openworkstudio is dedicated to creating quality architecture design that is crafted through research, creativity and years of experience. The practice works in different social and spatial contexts, providing architecture, interior design, master planning, restoration consultancy and  environmental design. The office’s projects range from the larger scale to smaller interventions, from residential to commercial, with a skilled team concerned with every detail, from the initial concept phase, through to the final finishing and construction stage. The office staff incorporates various disciplines to create strong and lasting experiences.

Every project at Openworkstudio is driven by its work ethic: a strong collaborative spirit within the team, with its clients and project collaborators, an intrinsic responsibility towards context, a high degree of sensitivity towards heritage, and an environmentally conscious approach to design. These core values are the foundations of each project undertaken.

Openworkstudio’s diverse team advances this vision though research, ingenuity, thoroughness, analytical understanding and a broader exploration of the programme, responding to contemporary issues creatively to reach beyond the traditional boundaries of conventional practice. Openworkstudio approaches projects critically, probing the specificities from different angles and areas of expertise: fusing architectural and interior design, detailing and material knowledge, restoration and adaptive reuse, structural engineering and environmental considerations, to deliver the best to its clients by exploiting its knowledge base and experience to the full extent.
Founded in 2016 by Alberto Miceli-Farrugia, Joanna Spiteri Staines, Debby De Domenico, Greta Caruana Smith, and, the drive, vision and expertise of the office is focused on building on the rich urban, historical and cultural contexts of Malta and its people, to deliver meaningful solutions for its clients.

Openworkstudio is looking for motivated and talented architects to join its team, to assist in the design of innovative urban and architectural/ interior design projects through the various stages of the design process. The ideal candidates should have an M Arch degree (or equivalent) in architecture with a minimum of three years working experience. 

We are looking for a person competent in completing high quality conceptual and technical work, able to work independently and/or as part of a small team on a number of projects simultaneously. The selected candidates will be capable of meeting tight deadlines, have a keen eye for detail and exceptional graphic and presentation skills. Proficiency in Autocad, Adobe Creative Suite & a 3D software is essential.

Openworkstudio is looking for a media and communications executive to join its practice. We are a design practice operating in the fields of architecture, urban planning, interior design, restoration, research and publishing.

We are looking for a highly motivated, talented and enthusiastic person who will be responsible for the office’s internal and external communications and public relations, which will include social media management, press enquiries and the coordination of business development related activities.

The ideal candidate will be creative with excellent writing, communication and organisational skills and a keen eye for design. He/she will be expected to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment. A degree and previous experience in communications, especially if in the cultural sector, will be considered an asset.

The responsibilities of the role include:

  • assisting with developing media strategies to support the practice’s vision and philosophy
  • assisting project teams to create communication material for inclusion in publications, presentations and other submissions
  • preparing text and digital media content covering office activities and project developments, including organising photography and video shoots
  • responding to publication and media requests professionally
  • developing a strong media network and identifying opportunities
  • maintaining an office and project information database comprising photographs and editorial files
  • coordinating in-house and external events 


  • a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in architecture or media and communications, while experience, especially if in the cultural sector is considered an asset
  • proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Microsoft Office
  • excellent writing skills in English, communication and organisational skills
  • knowledge of other languages will be considered an asset

Interns can expect to work on various projects within a team. They will be mentored by experienced professionals. For talented and ambitious architectural student, Openworkstudio offers a challenging, fulfilling, fast-paced working environment. We are currently offering a 

3 month Summer Internship programme (July-September)

Student interns will assist in architectural and interior design tasks including:

  • model making
  • drafting project presentation images and documentation
  • assisting in the preparation of application submissions

We would like you to be:

  • a graduate with a bachelor or master’s degree in architecture design, landscape design, interior design or urban design;
  • strong graphically and talented in design; 
  • experienced and skilful with Adobe Creative Suite and AutoCAD; 
  • skilful in model-making 
  • fluent in English  
  • a team player, curious and willing to learn with a passion for architecture and design and material research ;
